In November 2015, King County Proposition 1 (“Best Starts for Kids”) passed, launching the most comprehensive prevention- and early intervention-focused initiative for children and youth in the United States. With the aim to improve the health and well-being of King County, Best Starts will invest in the success of children and families from family planning and prenatal support, through early childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. Read more about the specific initiatives and plans for Best Starts for Kids in the Implementation Plan.
The Best Starts for Kids Implementation Plan lays out a strategy to expand school-health services in King County. Other related strategies support development of trauma-informed schools and implementation of better mental health and substance abuse screening for youth. Visit the Best Starts for Kids website to learn more.
UPDATE: On Wednesday, September 28, 2016 King County Executive, Dow Constantine signed legislation to move forward with Best Starts for Kids.
