In the March 2, 2017 issue of the Seattle Times, editorial columnist, Jonathan Martin featured Seattle school-based health centers (SBHCs) in an opinion piece.
Martin highlighted the important work being done in SBHCs throughout Washington State, calling out Seattle’s three-decade-long investment in SBHCs as an example for the rest of the State. Noting that “For a school system looking for better outcomes, the return-on-investment for mental-health care is absurdly good,” Martin made the case for State lawmakers to earmark funding for school-based health services in their proposals to fully fund education in response to the McCleary Decision.
Thank you to the staff at Neighborcare Health and Roosevelt High School for facilitating a visit and providing additional information and thank you to all our Seattle and King County school-based health centers for the work you do. Your staff and SBHCs provide a wonderful example of how investing in youth and adolescent health can pay off in the long run.
