On March 23, 2019, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation welcomed over 30 youth-led organizations, groups, and clubs to their annual Teen Action Fair to highlight the work they are doing in their community. The Fair (themed “It Starts with You(th)”) was hosted by the Gates Foundation Discovery Center Youth Ambassadors and included performances from local arts groups such as the Spectrum Dance Youth Division, Red Eagle Soaring Native Youth Theatre, and Filipino Youth Activities Drill Team.
Public Health’s own HPV Vaccine Champions tabled at the Fair, sharing their work with their peers. Youth participating in this project lead HPV vaccine promotion campaigns in their high schools and partner with their School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) to improve vaccine initiation and series completion among their classmates. Funded by the Group Health Foundation Momentum Fund, this project began in 2015 and has supported over 50 youth to serve as health advocates in their communities.
