Results from a study undertaken in Seattle school-based health centers (SBHCs) show that “adolescent SBHC users had higher odds of completing the HPV vaccine series than adolescents who received all doses in traditional health care settings.”
Published recently in Public Health Reports, the study (undertaken by Public Health–Seattle & King County’s Communicable Disease Epidemiology and Immunization Section) looked at immunization data for Seattle residents age 13-18. Compared to youth who did not use SBHC services, it found that females and males who used SBHC services had 37% and 45% higher odds (respectively) of completing the series at any time. Additionally, female and male SBHC users had 33% and 79% higher odds (respectively) of completing the series on time compared to nonusers.
