In an effort to highlight new and creative ways school-based health staff are engaging youth in conversations around health and well-being, we are starting a series called It Starts with You(th).
For the past five years, student leaders at Garfield High School in Seattle have partnered with Public Health–Seattle & King County to promote Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and other services available through their school-based health center (SBHC). Operated by Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, the SBHC at Garfield has had to adjust service delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning. The student leaders have stepped to help encourage their peers to access the SBHC services during this “new normal.”
Recognizing the unique challenges of reaching their peers during this time, the Garfield youth leaders designed and helped distribute the following digital flyer to their fellow Bulldogs.
It’s “all hands on deck” right now to help ensure that students are connected to the critical health services that SBHCs provide, including vaccinations. Congrats to these student leaders for their creativity and commitment to supporting the health of the Garfield community!
