Happy Nurses Week to our SBHC Nurses!

We are excited to end National Nurses Week (May 6-12) with a huge THANK YOU to the nurses that staff our school-based health centers (SBHCs).

Our SBHCs do the work of comprehensive primary care clinics with very minimal staffing. In community settings, medical providers typically have Medical Assistants (MAs), pharmacists, and other critical medical team members to support them in providing high quality care. In King County SBHCs, our medical providers–most of whom are Nurse Practitioners–room patients, run labs, administer vaccines, write and fill prescriptions, provide direct clinical care and diagnosis, among many other things. AND they do this with the utmost compassion and care for the students and families they serve.

For 2024, the American Nurses Association selected the theme “Nurses Make the Difference” and no where is that better demonstrated than in SBHCs! Working in educational settings, SBHC nurses frequently coordinate with building administration, teachers, and community partners to ensure their patients are getting the wrap-around care that they need to be successful in their health and their academics.

Thank you, SBHC nurses for all that you do! You are so appreciated!
